Lorrie's Button

Hy Zelkowitz' sculpture, Lorrie's Button,  was created  as part of a competition to design a piece for the bicentenial year in Grand Rapids. It was designed to be as much of an object for play as an object of art, and has been a beloved destination for Grand Rapids' children since it's installation at the annual Festival of the Arts in 1976. 

Some Facts

• Zelkowitz won $500 along with his first place award, all of which was put back into the production of the sculpture
• The every day wear and tear from play on the scuplture makes Lorrie's Button one of the city's most expensive works of public art to maintain.
